The World Data Center A (Bathymetry) at the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) Boulder, working with the DIU, assembled the available underway bathymetry in a variety of formats from WOCE cruises. Much of the data were in need of examination both for errors and correction for local sound velocity. In this work they were assisted for a number of cruises by Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) as part of the Pacific WOCE Atlas project and also for the Atlantic Ocean by Mr. P. Hunter of the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO) office at the Southampton Oceanography Centre. The work concentrated on the cruises of the One Time survey. The coverage of the data are shown in the figure above. In addition there are a number of datasets from repeat surveys (particularly of the Southern Ocean) and from mooring deployments. |
