The WOCE Data Assembly
Center for Shipboard Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (SADCP) was
co-located at the Japan Oceanographic
Data Center
(JODC) and at the University of Hawaii Joint
Archive for Shipboard ADCP
(JASADCP), a collaboration between the US
National Oceanographic Data Center
(NODC) and the Eric Firing ADCP
Laboratory .
The JASADCP is responsible for the acquisition, review, documentation,
archival, and distribution of shipboard ADCP data sets.
Shipboard acoustic
doppler current profilers (ADCPs), when used in conjunction with
reliable heading and navigation data, can determine absolute currents
in the upper ocean.
The ADCP CDROM version 3.0 contains NetCDF and
ASCII files of shipboard ADCP data which have been averaged in hourly
time spans and 10 m depth intervals. The WOCE cruises are uniquely
identified and all inventories, cruise track plots, fixed-level
vector plots, data files, and cruise documentation files are accessible
through an HTML interface or by changing to the subdirectory containing
the files.
Additionally,
calibrated science-ready SADCP data at a sampling scheme as recorded
at sea by the ADCP, which typically ranges from 4 to 16 m depth
bin lengths of 2-10 minute averages is available at the USNODC (accession
number 0000755). It also contains all ancillary data streams such
as ship heading and position as well as depth-binned arrays of many
parameters such as acoustic return strength and error diagnostics.
